General Statement of Duties

Performs law enforcement duties in an assigned area during a specific period; assists in investigations of criminal offenses and in the apprehension of criminals; does related work as required.

 

 

Essential Duties

Ability to be courteous yet firm with the public and to be alert; ability to use discretion and good judgment; ability to understand and to carry out complex oral and written instructions; ability to drive an automobile; ability to learn how to use firearms; good powers of observation and memory; excellent moral character; physical condition that permits the activities necessary in and inherent to the police officer profession; good written communication skills to properly prepare accurate case-related paperwork and render accurate paperwork related to all job assignment activities; and good oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations. 

 

 

Additional Information

A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.

 

Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Virginia. Must be a citizen of the United States. Requires a pre-employment physical examination and/or medical tests administered by Henrico County Employee Health Services, the components of which are based on and appropriate to the specific sensory and/or physical demands of the job.

 

 

Minimum Requirements

Graduation from high school; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
